BroadLight’s GPON Solution Wins “Innovative Award 2005” from EDN China

ARepresenting the Industry’s First GPON ONT SoC, the BroadLight BL2000 is Sampling Today to Customers Worldwide

January 11, 2006 – Mountain View, Calif. - BroadLight, a leading supplier of ITU Passive Optical Network (PON) semiconductors and software, today announced that EDN China has awarded its BL2000 Optical Network Termination (ONT) system-on-chip (SoC) the highly respected “EDN China Innovation Award for 2005.” Recognized as the industry’s first “sampling” GPON ONT SoC, the BL2000 won this award after three lengthy rounds of judging, which included a review by an expert team of judges as well as on-line voting by EDN China readers.

How the Products Were Chosen
EDN China received nominations for more than 100 products introduced in China in 2005. After three rounds of judging, the BL2000 was declared “Leading Product” in the category of Communication Network ICs.

The first round of judging included the initial nomination. In the second round of judging, EDN China assembled a technical panel of judges which included:

  • A distinguished team of professors from four prestigious universities & academic organizations - Fudan University, Qinghua University, Hong Kong Science and Technology University, Xian Jiaotong University.
  • CTO or Design managers from the leading electronics companies in China - including ZTE, TCL, Skyworth;
  • EDN China editors
The third round of judging consisted of voting by EDN China on-line and print readers. The voting was publicized online, through a direct mailing to more than 35,000 readers and in the September issue of EDN China.
