Millinet Selects BroadLight’s End-to-End GPON Solution for Next Generation Access Equipment in Korea
Millinet and BroadLight Team to Deliver GPON to Korea Telecom in 2006
November 9, 2005 – Mountain View, Calif. - BroadLight, Inc., a leading supplier of ITU Passive Optical Network (PON) semiconductors, software and transceivers, today announced that Millinet, a leading broadband access equipment vendor in Korea, has selected BroadLight’s complete End-to-End (E2E) GPON product solution for deployment in Korea. The two companies intend to deliver GPON equipment to Korea Telecom for providing cost-effective capacity for IPTV, VoIP and high-speed internet.
“We are very pleased to be the GPON technology supplier selected by Millinet for deployment of GPON in Korea,” said Andy Vought, CEO of BroadLight. “Korea is one of the leading countries for broadband and we believe many other countries will follow with GPON simply because it is a faster and cheaper solution compared with other PON technologies.”
”We chose BroadLight because their complete, comprehensive, E2E GPON solution enabled us to get to market quickly and cost-effectively,” said Millinet. “Having this total solution of GPON hardware and software for both ends of the network along with their experience in turning up the PON technology on equipment greatly mitigated our development risks.”
BroadLight’s GPON Solution
In June 2005, BroadLight unveiled a complete E2E GPON solution that features the BL2000 GPON System-on-Chip (SoC) for cost focused ONT applications. The highly-integrated E2E GPON solution consists of PONmaker software, BL3000 OLT MAC, OLT and ONT transceivers and the BL2000 family of ONT SoCs. Delivering unprecedented performance and integration, BroadLight’s E2E GPON provides customers with a low-cost and low-risk solution that will significantly speed their time to market with ITU-T G.984-compliant GPON equipment.
“GPON has been gaining momentum in Asia not only due to its cost and performance but also because of the availability of the technology,” said Eric Cheong, BroadLight’s general manager of Asia. “We are very pleased to deliver these advantages to Millinet and look forward to providing them with outstanding service and support.”
“Millinet and BroadLight recognize that fiber technology is the only broadband solution that can deliver the capacity consumers demand for emerging video, HDTV, interactive gaming and multimedia,” added Millinet. “Out of all the PON technologies reviewed, we believe GPON offers the best price to performance solution and look forward to delivering GPON products to market.”
